Local business and industry advisors guide program development to assure that the curriculum and equipment match the needs and standards of employers. Employers tell us what skills are needed for success in their fields and those are the skills we teach. Statement of Need There is a need to increase the students’ level of skill with technology in order to make them more productive for their industry. One of the York County School of Technology's goals is to integrate technology into the classrooms to prepare students for their industry. The teachers need to have the students think more critically on an everyday basis. As an educator in this particular school there is a need to relate everything taught to the different industries in the building. The students should not be sitting in their seats and listening to lecture. They need to be out of their seats and using this technology they have all around them.Instead of reading about chemical reactions for example, the cosmetology students explain to the class what happens when they make hair dye.To teach physics, the teachers have the students in the carpentry area making trusses and testing the force each can take.To measure how well this is accomplished, the technical teachers make observations of the students to see how ready they are to enter the industry. If the students are ready, they do get to go out on internships their senior year and get feedback from business people in their actual field.
